A Teaching Story Curriculum

“We have to study children, learn to speak their language, and work from there on their behalf. Children listen willingly to stories. So let modern day storytellers weave the information of science, history, and culture, into interesting stories. Let us enact and dramatize the stories to bring them to life. Let the villages be New Edens in which the society actually lives the principles of sustainability and deep ecology right on the grounds. Let the villages be community learning centers where all are learners and all are teachers. Let them form networks with learning centers all over the world. Let them be wombs of universal brotherhood and peace.” – Vicky Johnston, Founding Director - Center For Living Ethics 501(c)(3)

Unique Educational System for Our Children Minimize
21st Century Children

The Harmonies Way approach to education leverages the ancient, time-tested methods of learning through storytelling and combines it with a Nature-based educational setting and cooperative methods of teaching that completely addresses the elementary school needs of the 21st Century child.

If we consider the survey results published by U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training identifying the skills employers most look for in potential employees we can make some observations:

  1. Learning-to-learn skills
  2. Listening and oral communication
  3. Adaptability: Creative thinking and problem solving
  4. Personal management: self-esteem, goal-setting/self-motivation
  5. Group effectiveness: interpersonal skills, negotiation, teamwork
  6. Organizational effectiveness and leadership
  7. Competence in reading, writing, and computation

We observe that the majority of the seven skills are based on the development of Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence.

Not only does the Harmonies Way Teaching Story curriculum system completely support the development of the seven skills above but, as a result of the holistic approach to education, also naturally develops within the student the skill of innovation.

Proficiency in emotional management, conflict resolution, communication and interpersonal skills is essential for children to develop inner self-security and become able to effectively deal with the pressures and obstacles that will inevitably arise in their lives. Moreover, increasing evidence is illuminating that emotional balance and cognitive performance are indeed linked. - Research Overview (c) Institute of HeartMath

By publishing the Center For Living Ethics proprietary curriculum, any external educational organization or individual interested in holistic child development can benefit by purchasing and utilizing the Harmonies Way Teaching Story Curriculum and the tried and tested methods of cooperative education.

Introduction Minimize

"If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of all children, I should ask that her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout life."

WORD FOR THE DAY
Rachel Carson

A few words from Harmonies Way founder, Vicki Johnston.

"Our intent since the inception of the Robert Muller Center for Living Ethics School (RMCLE) has been to create a viable and replicable model for the nurturing and education of children.

Foremost among our goals has been the nurturing of a strong social conscience and a broadened intelligence that compassionately encompasses the human family and other planetary kingdoms as one web of life.

Drawing on the historical precedents of humanity and the wisdom of great thinkers in child psychology and education, we have pioneered the Harmonies Way approach to education that fosters heart and whole-brain intelligence, and a sense of purpose in service to life through joy and love of learning."

The Robert Muller Center for Living Ethics School, located in Fairview Texas has been in operation for over 20 years in the capacity of a pilot research facility for the Harmonies Way model of education we have developed.

The founder and director of the Robert Muller School, Vicki Johnston, has spent the last 14 years developing a proprietary K-6 children’s curriculum based on the time-tested concept of Teaching Stories.

A full set of holistic curriculum, synthesizing ethics, science and art has been developed, tested and refined in the yearly classroom setting at the Robert Muller School.
